GEPA Boosts Tech Firms’ Readiness for Global Markets

The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) has strengthened its support for Ghana’s technology ecosystem through targeted industry engagement on legal preparedness, regulatory compliance, investment promotion, and international expansion into regional and global markets.

The Tech Industry Engagement with The Eight Geeks, held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the GEPA Head Office in Accra, convened technology industry stakeholders for practical discussions on export readiness, legal and regulatory compliance, investment preparedness, and market expansion.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Raymond Rashid Kramer, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GEPA, who reaffirmed the Authority’s ongoing efforts to provide technology businesses with market exposure, capacity-building opportunities, relevant partnerships, and platforms to enhance their ability to scale internationally. He emphasized that, although innovation remains critical to the growth of Ghana’s technology sector, firms must also establish robust business structures capable of meeting the legal, regulatory, and commercial requirements of international markets.

The main presentation was delivered by Mr. Emmanuel Saah, a technology lawyer and legal adviser at The Eight Geeks, who guided participants through the key legal considerations involved in exporting and scaling technology businesses. He explained that technology can cross borders in several ways, including the provision of services to customers outside Ghana, facilitating access to international markets through digital platforms, and establishing a business presence in another country.

Participants were encouraged to strengthen key business foundations, including corporate governance, ownership structures, intellectual property, contracts, data management, and regulatory compliance, before pursuing international expansion.

The session also highlighted the importance of understanding the regulatory requirements of destination markets, including licensing, registration, local ownership rules, data protection, cybersecurity, and partnership requirements.

Regarding investment readiness, tech firms were advised to clearly link capital requirements to specific expansion needs, including licenses, product localization, compliance systems, operational capacity, and market growth. Participants were also reminded that investors and strategic partners increasingly require clear evidence of ownership, intellectual property rights, compliance, and sound contractual arrangements during due diligence.

The engagement concluded with a readiness test built around five key areas: export model, business foundations, regulatory entry, investment needs, and evidence of preparedness.

The program forms part of GEPA’s broader commitment to strengthening the technology export ecosystem and supporting Ghanaian businesses in developing the structures, knowledge, and partnerships necessary to compete successfully in international markets. It comes on the heels of GEPA’s support for selected IT players to participate in GITEX Nigeria, a technology exhibition that brought together global and regional stakeholders to discuss technological advancements, establish business linkages, develop partnerships, and market technology solutions.
