GEPA Collaborates with ITC To Launch Market Access Requirement Platform on the Market Hub
On the 20th of July 2022, GEPA and ITC with the support of UKaid launched the Market Access Map on the GEPA Market Hub.
Launching the site, the CEO of GEPA, Dr. Afua Asabea reiterated the need for the various publics with particular emphasis on the exporter community to undergo substantial capacity building with the view to making exportation easier for actors in the export space.
The CEO intimated that Non Tariff Measures (NTMS) are quite fluid and dynamic and are part of the obstructions to effective exporting and it was therefore appropriate that the localized MacMap on the market Hub has been developed for use by the public.
Dr. Asare underscored the importance of the National Export Development Strategy (NEDS) and the pillars it rests upon. And that these pillars of Supply Based Expansion, Improvement in the Regulatory Environment and Capacity building are not mutually exclusive but are interdependent variables that must be tackled concomitantly. She further opined that effective capacity building of the actors in export will positively impact the other planks of the strategy.
“The National Export Development Strategy (NEDS), which has become the national blueprint for export development, promotion and positioning is bedrocked on three (3) major planks which are complementary in nature. Capacity building, which happens to be the third pillar of the NEDS is very crucial to our export growth and it is the fulcrum around which the other two pillars revolve. Capacity building of internal and external publics therefore goes a long way to improve the other two planks of supply-based expansion and improvement in regulatory environment. It is when these three interdependent factors are critically tackled that we will be able to achieve the USD 25.3 billion objective by 2029” Dr. Asare indicated.
In her address, the CEO again echoed the various projects put at the disposal of exporters and other publics and urged them to take full advantage of them. She particularly made mention of the Impact Hub, the Market Hub, the Export School and other schemes that are geared towards exporter knowledge enhancement.
“At GEPA, we believe in human capacity strengthening, which is why we have put at your disposal the Market Hub, the impact hub and the Export School, as well as other capacity building schemes to enable you take advantage of the vast export opportunities. I urge you to take full advantage of these initiatives.” the CEO emphasized.
Martin Lopez, UKTP Project Manager at ITC took participants through the portal and tutored them on how to navigate it easily in order to obtain the right information on their products. The training had both virtual and in-person audience.
The Market Access Map is an ITC platform that provides trade resources on tariff and non tariff regimes in various countries.
