GEPA Explores Export Opportunities with Kantanka Automechanical Company

In a strategic move to bolster Ghana’s Non-Traditional Export sector, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) paid a working visit to Kantanka Automechanical Company Limited on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The visit aimed at exploring potential collaborations to enhance the export readiness of  vehicles assembled in Ghana and the strategies required to strengthen the automotive industry in Ghana.

Led by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Raymond Rashid Kramer, GEPA officials engaged with Kantanka’s management to assess their capabilities and discuss possible support mechanisms to facilitate the company’s entry into international markets. Mr. Kramer reiterated GEPA’s commitment to fostering partnerships that promote locally manufactured products, emphasizing the need for government support to reduce the reliance on foreign-made vehicles.

Showcasing Innovation in Ghana’s Automotive Industry

During the visit, Kantanka representatives showcased their latest innovations in the sector, including models such as the “Nyansaboakwa,” “Onantefo,” and “Obrempong.” These advancements highlight the company’s dedication to sustainable transportation and cutting-edge technology.

Nyansaba, the team lead at Kantanka Automechanical Company, identified funding as a major challenge in meeting market demands. He appealed for government support to expand production capacity and scale up manufacturing operations, particularly in the production of batteries for automobiles. He urged GEPA to advocate for policies that would empower the local automobile industry to manufacture these essential components, thus promoting both industrial growth and export potential.

A Glimpse into Kantanka’s Manufacturing Process

The GEPA delegation was given a guided tour of Kantanka’s production facility, where they observed key sections, including the stamping area, welding, painting and disinfection, and final assembly. They also had the opportunity to view newly manufactured vehicles set to be delivered to clients.

Strengthening Ghana’s Global Trade Presence

The discussions between GEPA and Kantanka Automechanical focused on addressing challenges such as high import duties on essential components, the need for investment, and strategic partnerships.

By fostering such collaborations, GEPA aims to position Ghanaian-made vehicles on the global stage, contributing to the country’s economic growth through export diversification.
