Lord Kweku Sekyi

Ghana’s Non-Traditional Exports (NTEs) in 2024 recorded earnings of US$3.83 billion, reaching 152 countries across 609 product lines and involving over 1,500 exporting firms.
This was revealed by the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) during the launch of the 2024 Non-Traditional Exports (NTEs) Statistics Report in Accra on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Addressing industry stakeholders, GEPA’s CEO, Francis Kojo Kwarteng Arthur, acknowledged a 2.87% drop in earnings compared to the previous year, adding that the government remains committed to boosting the nation’s overall export earnings through the President’s Accelerated Export Development Programme.
He said the African market accounted for 45% of all NTEs, with ECOWAS states comprising over 94% of Ghana’s exports within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)
“Africa accounted for 45% of all NTEs, with the ECOWAS region making up over 94% of Ghana’s exports to the AfCFTA market. This affirms our strategy to deepen regional trade and leverage trade protocols and regimes like the ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme and AfCFTA.”

The latest report revealed the country’s export earnings as $3,830,806,432 compared to $3,944,146,727 in 2023.
The decline was attributed to a decrease in iron and steel exports to the ECOWAS region; nevertheless, it recorded promising gains in several other sectors.
The report also indicated that between 2020 and 2024, NTEs achieved an average annual growth rate of 6.01%, accounting for 18.75% of total merchandise exports in 2024.
For GEPA, NTEs remain an essential part of Ghana’s export portfolio, despite the decline in the latest earnings.
Speaking to journalists after the event, the Deputy Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, urged young people to venture into agribusiness.
He said the government is keen on implementing youth-focused programmes to reduce unemployment and boost Ghana’s overall export earnings.
The 2024 NTE Statistics Report launch was attended by representatives from sister agencies, including the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Plants Protection Regulatory Services Division (PPRSD), Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Bank of Ghana (BoG), Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI).
