GEPA has a new CEO

The Chief Director at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI), Mr Padi Adjirackor, on behalf of the sector minister, on Thursday, June 14, 2018, introduced Madam Afua Asabea Asare and her deputies; Mr Albert Kassim Diwura and Mr Sam Dentu, the newly appointed CEO and deputies respectively, of the  Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) to management and staff of the Authority, at a short ceremony.

Ms Afua Asabea Asare, who takes over from Gifty Kekeli Klenam, has been appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the Chief Executive Officer for the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA).

A letter dated 7 June 2018 signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo, Secretary to the President, said: “Pursuant to Sections 2 (1) (L) and 9 (2) of the Ghana Export Promotion Act 1969, (N.L.C.D), I am pleased to inform you that the President has appointed you as the Executive Secretary of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate you formally on your appointment. Kindly indicate your acceptance or otherwise of this appointment within 14 days of receipt of this letter.”

In a separate letter from the presidency, Mr. Albert Diwura and Mr. Sam Dentu have also been announced as Deputy Executive Chief Officers of the Authority.

They were both expected to accept or reject the appointment 14 days after receiving the letters.

Mr Albert Diwura was the NPP’s 2012 and 2016 Parliamentary candidate for the Damongo Constituency.

GEPA is strategically placed to drive the government’s one-district-one-factory programme to project government’s agenda for creating jobs and boost the country’s Non-Traditional Exports.

The new GEPA CEO and her deputies expressed their gratitude, and the appreciation of the reception offered them by staff and management of GEPA.

The new leaders also gave indication that, they would continue with the vision of the immediate past leaders, to realise the overarching policies of the government under the ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda.

About Afua Asabea Asare

Afua Asabea Asare is a lifelong Positive Leadership and Strategy enthusiast with a background in Integrated Communications.

Asabea has a 25-year Management experience, working in a variety of corporate environments as a staff and as a consultant.

She has an MA in Positive Leadership and Strategy from IE University in Madrid, Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from KNUST, Ghana, Post-Graduate Diploma in Organisational Development from the University of Cape-Coast and MBA International Business from Ecole Superieur de Gestion (ESG), Paris.

She also has a Certificate in Strategic Marketing Management from the Harvard Business School, Cambridge, Boston, a Post-Graduate degree in Communications Studies, School of Comm. Studies, University of Ghana, Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising, Ghana Institute of Journalism and currently pursuing a Doctor in Business Management and a Master of Science degree in Research from the Swiss Business School.

She has authored various industry and business articles, on coaching, leadership development, and on the diversity of thought and inclusion.

Asabea is the Founder and Lead Consultant at AYA & Company until March 2017 and also an adjunct Lecturer of Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Strategic Supply Chain Management and Mass Communication at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) the Presbyterian University College and a Visiting Lecturer and Speaker at the China Europe International Business School’s (CEIBS) Women in Entrepreneurship and Leadership in Africa (WELA) programme.

She serves on the Board of Venture Capital Trust Fund and the Advisory Board on Africa for IE University in Madrid, Spain

In the past, she worked as General Manager and Head of Corporate Communications, Ghana Telecom, Public Relations and Training Departments of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, an intern in the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s TV News Room and Nippon Tetrapod Co. Ltd of Japan.
