GEPA Schools its Management on Best Practices in Public Financial Management and Procurement
As part of its efforts to improve financial management practices within GEPA, Management has organized two-day workshop to educate senior frontline staff and GEPA management on financial administration as pertains in the public sector.
Amongst other considerations, the workshop had the cardinal objectives of streamlining the work processes of GEPA, orienting the management to public sector financial controls and systems as well as best practices in public procurement. The training also elucidated on the sanctions applicable as a corollary of infractions.
The workshop brought together directors and heads of departments as well as regional directors from all over the country to go through the exercise. In attendance were the CEO Ms Afua Asabea Asare, and Deputy CEOs Albert Kassim Diwura and Samuel Dentu.
In his opening address, the deputy CEO in charge of Human Resource and Administration Albert Kassim Diwura who spoke in the stead of the CEO, advised management and other staff members to take the lessons seriously with the view to working towards the corporate strategic objective of increasing exports. This, he said could only be achieved with the judicious use of the limited financial resources in GEPA’s kitty.
The resource persons who were drawn from Ghana Institute of Procurement and Suppliers (GIPS), Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD), Internal Audit Agency, and the Audit Committee delved into topics such as Public Procurement ACT, Public Financial Management Act, Leading with Emotional Intelligence, Documentation for Financial Transactions and Working with Internal Audit to Achieve Management Objectives (PFM Perspectives).
In their assessment, participants were happy with the engagements and indicated their willingness and readiness to lend themselves to best practices in public financial management controls and compliance.
In her closing remark, the Chief Executive Officer Ms Afua Asabea Asare thanked the resource persons for a yeoman’s job and assured them of strict adherence to the financial management practices and protocols as prescribed by the public sector.
