Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) the lead agency for the development and promotion of Ghana’s exports led by the recently appointed Chief Executive Officer Ms.Afua Asabea Asare, has commenced visits to major stakeholders in the export sector.

This step, is aimed at introducing the new management team to stakeholders, whilst gathering information on the activities and operations of the exporters. It is also to create the atmosphere for discussing challenges besetting the sector and support from GEPA in overcoming these challenges.

Companies visited include:

  • Niche Cocoa Industry Limited:a wholly owned Ghanaian cocoa processing producing semi processed products: cocoa liquor, cocoa butter and cocoa cake for exports and chocolate for the local market.
  • B5 Plus Company Limited:a manufacturer and exporter of steel.
  • Cocoa Touton Processing Company:an international cocoa processing factory exporting cocoa liquor, butter and cake.
  • Kingdom Exim Ghana Limited:is part of a group in West Africa headquartered in Ghana exporting cashew nut, shea nut, soya beans, maize and other agro-products.

Among issues discussed is:

  • The high cost of energy and its negative impact on the operations of the business,
  • Availability of raw material at competitive prices to ensure sustained production
  • The need to secure markets for value-added finished products and
  • The need to review the law on ‘Letter of Commitment’ (LOC) which obligates Free Zone companies to repatriate their foreign exchange earnings.

All the companies visited expressed appreciation to GEPA for the visit and also hoped that the challenges affecting the business with the support of the Authority will be curtailed.

The CEO of GEPA, Ms. Afua Asabea Asare commended the companies for their hard work in ensuring sustained exports for the development of the country and affirmed her support in collaborating to resolve the issues raised. She added that the visits will be conducted more regularly to forge close relationships for effective stakeholder coordination.
