GEPA welcomes WTO Director General to Ghana

The CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Dr. Afua Asabea Asare, joined CEOs of trade promotion agencies to welcome the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, during her visit to Ghana.

To emphasize the WTO’s commitment to increasing support for Sub-Saharan Africa, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala met with the Minister of Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond and business leaders during her two-day visit, which began on April 25.

She also met President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and interacted with female entrepreneurs while participating in a discussion held by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) under the theme, “Making Globalisation Work for Africa.”

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, who previously served as the Finance Minister of Nigeria, lauded the efforts made by the Government of Ghana to guarantee the success of the debt restructuring programme.

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the seventh Director-General of the WTO, took office on 1 March 2021, becoming the first woman and the first African to serve as Director-General. She is a global finance expert, an economist and an international development professional with over 30 years of experience working in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America.
