Ghana Export Promotion Authority partners African Coconut Group to launch International Coconut Festival

Ghana Export Promotion Authority today joined the African Coconut Group and a host of key dignitaries to launch the biggest Coconut Festival in Sub Saharan Africa. The International Coconut Festival  is scheduled to take place in Ghana from 24th – 26th  September 2019 at the Accra International Conference Centre under the theme: Promoting Export Diversification through a Robust Ghanaian Coconut Industry.

Delivering her opening remarks at the launch event held at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on June 18, 2019, the CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Madam Afua Asabea Asare, pledged GEPA’s support in collaborating with key Research Institutions including the Institute of Applied Science and Technology  to develop coconut seed plantations to spur the development of the coconut industry in Ghana and also increase production of the crop.

The launch event attracted a number of Government officials and leaders in the coconut value chain including the Eastern Regional Minister, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, the Chairman of African Coconut Group, President of the Coconut Federation, Ghana, Representatives from The Year of Return initiative, Municipal and District Chief Executives and friends from the media.

The International Coconut Festival – Ghana promises to be the largest festival ever organized in Ghana and the sub-region. This festival will bring together divergent and towering coconut industry players worldwide. It is expected that the event will attract a myriad of investors, research scientists, entrepreneurs and stakeholders along the value chain.

The goal of the international coconut festival is to provide a platform to connect and serve the Ghanaian community and other international participants through the development and promotion of coconut. The festival will primarily showcase the various features of the coconut tree from the root to its leaves.

The event is being organized by the African Coconut Group in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture, Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana Free Zones Authority, Coconut Federation and the AMG Group Limited.
