Ghana Week DC Capital City Africa Cup launched in Accra

The 2023 edition of the Ghana Week DC Capital City Africa Cup has been unveiled in Accra as part of efforts to establish Ghana as the centre of the global Pan-Africanist movement.

Ghana Week in the United States of America, which is scheduled to be held from October 9 to October 14 2023, in Washington DC, includes a series of activities aimed at highlighting Ghana as a top destination for tourism, investment, trade, culture, football and the historical diaspora.

Addressing journalists during a press launch held at the Accra City Hotel, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyeman, said the event is intended to celebrate cultural ties between Ghana and the United States of America, particularly the city of Washington DC.

He said the celebration will be crowned with a football match between American Major League Soccer (MLS) side, DC United and a Ghana Premier League team.

Paxton Baker, the CEO of PBX Enterprises, organisers of the football match, encouraged Ghanaians to take advantage of the event to promote Ghana to the outside world.

He said the event will also be used to showcase business opportunities in Ghana, in a bid to attract investors to the country.

Ghana Week DC is a partnership between the GTA, GEPA, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Ghana Football Authority (GFA), the Embassy of Ghana in Washington DC, the City of DC Mayor’s Office and PBX Enterprises.
