Glofert launches Ghana’s largest fertilizer processing company
Ghanaian farmers seeking the right fertilizer to apply on their farms can now heave a sigh of relief with the commissioning of a new fertilizer blending facility, Glofert fertilizer.
The company prides itself with the production of fertilizer which will suit the various soil types for the cultivation of crops.
The move is also part of the government’s flagship one district, one factory policy.
The 4.5 million dollar facility is to serve the needs of ensuring food security with the provision of excellent yields of farmers.
Glofert, produces fertilizer comprising, urea, ammonium, sulphate as well as various types of Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potassium (NPK) which are widely used by farmers in Ghana and across the West African sub-region.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the inauguration touted the numerous benefits to accrue to the state with the establishment of the facility coupled with its provision of jobs for residents and people with other skills sets.
“Today I’d want to challenge the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the COCOBOD that with the coming on stream of Glofert, we know that the fertilizer blending plant on Ghana can meet our total demand and have excess capacity. We therefore do not have any reason to be further more be importing more and more fertilizer and wasting our foreign exchange in doing so,” the Vice President said.
The CEO of Glofert, Rev. Foster Mawuli Benson accepted the challenge to boost the company’s current 120 metric tonne per hour daily production level.
“We are capable of doing what is being imported into the country and of course we are even able to tailor it to the soil needs of farmers because we have people on the field who are testing the soils and are able to determine what nutrients are lacking in the soil,” he observed.
Other highlights of the fertilizer processing factory are its ambitious location outside the industrial enclave of Tema.
It is also part of the over hundred and eighty-one district one factory initiatives which are at various stages of completion to drive the industrial agenda of the country.
Again, for this year, Glofert has supplied thirty thousand metric tonnes of NPK fertilizers to other fertilizer companies.
