Market Study and Value Chain Analysis of Cassava in the West Africa
West Africa is noted for the production and consumption of cassava and cassava related products. Nigeria and Ghana are amongst the top 10 global producers of fresh cassava, with Nigeria and Ghana occupying the first and the second positions in ECOWAS respectively.
The study therefore aimed at identifying the demand and supply condition of the product and also how to improve the performance and growth of cassava value chain and related services by stimulating its contribution to industry, regional trade, exports and job creation.
Two countries were selected for the cassava value chain analysis due to their leading position both in the global and domestic markets: Ghana and Nigeria.
This study was commissioned by the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), with funding from the European Commission under the West Africa Competitiveness Programme (WACOMP). WACOMP’s aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of West Africa and enhance the member state countries’ integration into the regional and international trading system.
