Market Study and Value Chain Analysis of Processed Fruits (Mango & Pineapple) in the West Africa
West Africa is one of the key Regional Economic Communities (RECs) with high output and exportation of Mango and Pineapple. Countries such la Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Benin produce and process pineapples for both local consumption and for export. Mali, Ghana, Burkina Faso are also noted for their relatively developed mango value.
This study therefore analysed the demand and supply conditions of these two important value chains and sought to identify actors along the value chains with the view to improving the performance and growth of the processed segment and its related services by stimulating the value chains’ contribution to industry, regional trade, exports and job creation.
Four countries were selected for the processed fruits (mango and pineapple) chain analysis: Ghana, La Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Mali.
The study was commissioned by Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) with funding support of the European Union under the ‘West Africa Competitiveness Programme (WACOMP). WACOMP’s aim is to strengthen West Africa’s competitiveness and improve member countries’ integration into the regional and international trading systems.
