Members laud Ministerial Declaration addressing food safety, animal, plant health challenges

WTO members welcomed the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Declaration on new challenges affecting food safety and animal and plant health adopted by ministers at the 12th Ministerial Conference in Geneva held on 12-17 June. At the opening of the meeting of the SPS Committee on 22 June, delegations underlined the importance of the Ministerial Declaration, which recognizes the need to enhance implementation of the SPS Agreement and the role of the SPS Committee in responding to new issues affecting international trade in food, plants and animals.
