On 22 September 2017 the Russian Federation deposited its instrument of acceptance for the 2005 protocol amending the WTO’s Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) with WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo. This brings to 118 the total number of WTO members that have agreed to make the protocol a permanent part of the TRIPS Agreement, thus securing for developing countries a legal pathway to ease access to affordable medicines.
