“Trade plays an important role in climate change adaptation and mitigation” — DDG Ellard
Deputy Director-General Angela Ellard highlighted on 26 October the role of international trade and the WTO in helping combat climate change. Speaking on behalf of Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at the “Global Leaders for Climate Action” event hosted by the International Chamber of Commerce UK, she noted that while the WTO is not the place to establish global climate policy goals, it plays an important role because its rules govern taxes, tariffs, subsidies, regulatory measures and other instruments that are relevant for implementing climate policies.
