Over 100 MSMEs showcase their products at GEPA-WACOMP End-of-Year Trade Show
The GEPA-WACOMP End-of-Year Trade Show 2023 has officially ended with a call on small businesses to forge partnerships that will enable them to take advantage of opportunities in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The event was held in Accra under the West African Competitiveness Programme with funding support from UNIDO and the European Union (EU).
Deputy CEO of GEPA, Samuel Dentu, who delivered a speech on behalf of GEPA CEO, Dr. Afua Asabea Asare, reiterated GEPA’s commitment to driving the continuous development of Made-in-Ghana products for export.
He said AfCFTA provides a greater market for Ghanaian businesses to expand their operations and boost their revenue by selling their products and services across the entire African continent.
He added that GEPA has established a Trade House in Nairobi, Kenya, with the goal of introducing Ghanaian products to the East African market while promoting business between entrepreneurs from Ghana and their counterparts abroad.
“We have also organized several SME capacity building programmes this year through our Export School programme and we shall intensify the training programme next year for the benefit of many more SMEs. Indeed, we also organized a new flagship programme called the Women Icon Regional Exhibitions (WIRE) in the course of the year. WIRE events are exhibitions organized in all Regions of Ghana to showcase products of women-led companies as a way of encouraging many more women to go into production of products and services with an ultimate objective of becoming successful exporters.”
The Cluster and Networks Expert for Cassava Value Chain at WACOMP, Joseph Yeboah, said through the application of UNIDO’s 5Cs-Compete, Correct, Conform, Conduct and Coordinate, WACOMP had made significant progress on product packaging and branding amongst MSMEs.
Over 100 MSMEs operating in the processed fruits (pineapple and mango), cassava derivatives, and cosmetics sectors showcased their products from the 14th to the 16th of December 2023 at the National Theatre.
